Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas, also referred to as Ashanti was born on 13 October of 1980, in Glen Cove New York United States. She is a singer, songwriter from America and actor. Ashanti's talent was first discovered as a teen. She signed with Murder Inc. Records, in 2002. She was featured on the Fat Joe's What's Luv? song that same year. The track "What's love?" by Fat Joe and Ja Rule's song "Always on Time were both huge hits. When she released the single, What's Luv in the top two spots at the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and Foolish at #1 featuring Foolish as her debut single, she was the first female to reach this feat. Tina Douglas' mother was teacher of dance, and Ken-Kaide Douglas, the father of Ashanti Douglas was a singer. She is the oldest and Kenashia Shia Douglas is her older sister. Douglas was given the name Ashanti in honor of the Ashanti Empire where women enjoyed control and power. Douglas hoped Ashanti would be like this. James was her grandfather. He was an activist for civil rights alongside Martin Luther King Jr. in the 1960s. Her mother was aware of the talent of her daughter as she listened to her sing Mary J. Blige's Reminisce. Ashanti was an actor in the child stage for Spike Lee's Malcolm X and Ted Demme's Who's the Man? Some of her appearances included music videos, such as K.R.S. Act One's MC's"Like They Don't Know" and 8 Off's Ghetto Woman. Ashanti's career as a musician was hindered because she was unable to find the heights she desired after being contacted by major labels like Bad Boy and Jive. Despite this she continued to play in and around New York and began hanging in The Murder Inc. recording studio in hopes of a big break. Ashanti was originally featured on the track of Big Pun's We Roll as a backing singer. She also appeared in the Fat Joe song "What's Luv?" and Ja Rule's Always on Time. On her first song, Foolish the song by DeBarge's Me that was recorded in 1983 is sung. The debut album of Ashanti was made available by Irv Gotti's Murder Inc. on the label in 2002. The Declaration the fourth studio album was released on June 3, 2008. On October 16 Hey Baby (After the Club) was made available to stations and digital platforms. The actress also appeared in the films Christmas in the City, Army Wives and Latasha Monteclair. Aitch was an British artist, took a sample of her song Rock wit U for Baby on March 10, 2022.
